Because and Reason: Two Estranged Brothers

The reason our economy is doing poorly is because people spend more money than they earn.
How many times have you come across similarly structured sentences? Did it bother you when you read them? Did you want to hit the editing button but could not find it? Even though some people use reason and because together, it should be noted that these two words are in fact synonyms.
Because can be interchanged with for the reason that. Using both words to explain something makes it sound redundant.
Going back to our first sentence, the best way to write it would be:
Our economy is doing poorly for the reason that people spend more money than they earn.
The reason our economy is doing poorly is that people spend more money than they earn.
You could also write it this way:
Our economy is doing poorly because people spend more money than they earn.

Professor Layton's Embarks On A Worldwide Expedition

Nintendo has just announced that Professor Layton and the Legacy of Super Civilisation A will be released worldwide. Renamed Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy, this latest game promises to be the biggest adventure to dateConsidering that all previous games in the series have been localised, this hardly comes as a surprise, but it is nice to receive a confirmation nonetheless. The sad part is that we will have to wait until 2014 before we can wrap our heads around this charming puzzle game.

Romeo And Juliet Official Trailer #1 (2013) - Hailee Steinfeld, Paul Gia...

For never was a story of more woe than this of Juliet and her Romeo.

Chaos Descends Upon The Android Yet Again

Would you be willing to sacrifice your loved one in order to save the world?
This is Square-Enix and Media.Vision's disturbing proposition. It is a difficult decision that you, the player, will have to make in Chaos Rings II, the third entry into the successful Chaos Rings series.
As the chosen one, you will have to take responsibility for a world on the brink of destruction. The task, however, will be a challenging one as saving the world comes with a terrible price. Question is: will you be able to pay it? Will you be able to renounce your loved one for the sake of the world?
While Chaos Rings II uses the same framework as the previous two games, Media.Vision has taken the liberty of revising the combat system, giving it a more strategic feel, while adding even more detail to the visuals. This is a stunning game that you will not soon forget.
Chaos Rings II is a stand-alone experience, but I highly recommend that you pick up the first two games in the series, especially now that they have a received a price reduction. Included in the game is a full Japanese voice track that is sure to please many otaku.
Chaos Rings II is a love letter to all JRPG fans. You owe it you yourself to play this amazing game.

Make sure you check out the previous two games if you have not done so already:

Gemini Rue Is Now Available On The iOS

I have a soft spot for Wadjet Eye Games. The studio rekindled my love for point&click adventure games with an indie release called The Blackwell Legacy. Since then, Wadjet Eye has released several highly-acclaimed adventure games, including Gemini Rue. From the mind of Joshua Nuernberger, Gemini Rue is a neo-noir sci-fi point&click adventure game that uses the AGS engine. It won several awards in 2011 and went on becoming a cult hit.
Wadjet Eye Games has now ported Gemini Rue to the iOS, making it the perfect opportunity for more players to experience this unique adventure. It is also the perfect opportunity for fans to double dip.
The iOS port uses intuitive touch commands in the form of a point and tap system.
The overall interface and text have been enlarged to provide a more conformable experience. Those who are not fans of hidden object games will discover the addition of a very useful hotspot finder. Also, the combat system has been redesigned.
Gemini Rue is on sale right, so grab it while it is hot!

LEVEL-5 announces Professor Layton and the Third-Person Shooter

LEVEL-5 has just announced that a new Professor Layton is in the works. Dubbed Professor Layton and the Third-Person Shooter, this latest adventure is set to attract a new audience that would not normally be interested in puzzle adventure games. The game uses a neo-noir style punctuated by graphic novel panels that tell the story of the professor turned hard-boiled detective. While it has not been confirmed, it seems that LEVEL-5 will use the same engine that powers the gorgeous Ni no Kuni. Both current and next-gen consoles are being targeted for this release.

Story synopsis:

It is 5 o'clock and professor Layton is enjoying a cup of Darjeeling tea. Suddenly, he realises that all of his tea has disappeared. He looks around but sees no one. The search for his beloved white tea leaves will eventually lead him into a corrupt metropolis, a filthy slump, and many more ghastly locations where he will have to fight gun lords, gangsters, and all sorts of unsavory fellas.
It is time to k i c k - a s s and drink tea, and Professor Layton is all out of tea.

Gameplay features:

- stop and pop shooting mechanics
- automatic cover system
- fluid finger-to-finger combat mechanics
- co-op both online and locally (second player assumes the control of Luke)
- modern weaponry crafted in minute detail
- 15 chapters of pure action

Expect more info at TGS 2013.
